Walking The Kent Coast

Walking has always been an important part of my life. I have walked long distance paths, walked in Wales and Ireland, walked in India, France and Belgium. Although I was born in Dover and have lived in Kent for most of my life I was struck by the fact that I had never visited many places on the Kent Coast.

In 2018 I walked from Dover to Faversham in 8 stages along roads or paths closest to the sea. Each stage was with a different companion. The walk was a civilised affair so we stopped somewhere en route for tea and cake.

I painted each of the cakes that I ate. This series became known as Walking the Kent Coast in 8 Cakes.

The Kent Coast is so varied, from shingle ness to chalk cliffs and marshland.  Many of these works are of place but created from memory.
